If you are a transgender person, you have access to healthcare services like anyone else. However, there are some limitations to transgender specific healthcare for asylum seekers staying at a COA reception location.
Mental healthcare is available if you are experiencing gender dysphoria. Hormone treatment is only available if you already started it in your country of origin. If you did not begin hormone treatment before arriving in the Netherlands, you are not eligible to receive it. Other types of gender-affirming care—such as surgeries or hair removal—are not covered by the health insurance for asylum seekers.
If you have a residence permit and are registered with a municipality, you are entitled to health care under the Dutch Health Insurance Law. This mandatory health insurance covers most gender-affirming care, including hormone treatments, blood tests, surgery and psychological support.
You can find general information about healthcare and health insurance in the Netherlands in English on the website of the Ministry of Health
